Rhaegar Elia portrait by guad Rhaegar Elia portrait by guad
Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell. A portrait. I tried to apply this tutorial [link] but I don't think I really succeeded.

Anyway, everybody always paints Rhaegar with Lyanna but hardly with Elia, who after all was his wife.

A song of Ice and Fire belongs to GRR Martin

This is awesome, and I feel a villain vibe coming from Elia for some reason.

Hm... Elia looks like a gypsy! Actually i think her skin is too dark here - it should be olive, not chocolate. Also Rhaegar's hairstyle is a bit.. mm.. out of time i guess. But, all in all - good work, and i like that you've drawn them together :)

Thanks! :)
Actually about the hair, it was a total fiasko, when I first did it it looked like a bad wig, so I digitally cut it off ;)

Yay! Finally some attention for Elia. I completely agree with you that she should be drawn with Rhaegar for once at least because she was his wife after all. I like the clothing and accessories, but I think that their faces, especially Elia's (Elia looks really bony and thin), are a bit too angular (could be drawn softer?). I'm no expert; this is merely my opinion. I still like this though. :)

Thanks a lot for the feedback :). I sort of tried to make her look a bit similar to Oberyn, but I appreciate a lot your suggestion :)

I think Rhaegar's lips turned out very well, and Elia's jewelry. And it looks convincing enough as a miniature that a lord or prince would have commissioned and carry around too, which is great. And of course you know I approve of Elia :P

If I had one concrit, I might watch Rhaegar's neck? Something either about how his head attaches to the neck or how the neck connects with the shoulders. Still, love it, great job Isa!

Uh, to be honest, I didn't really bother to finish the neck. (I mean, he'll lose it anyway to Roberts Hammer, right? :D ). I got so frustrated with my incapacity to make smooth skin (hence, acne! ;) ) that I didn't really continue there.

And I thought that the best part of the tutorial was the jewlery tips, very easy to make and quite pretty in the outcome :)

Thanks a lot! :)

What I do for skin is use the color picker to pick an intermediary color, and then just paint over on really low opacity (and maybe ~50% hardness). That works better for me than using the blend/smudge tool, though I don't quite have the hang of it myself either :) Another thing I try to do is rely less on pure black, and use different hues (greens and yellows and purples on lower opacity, instead of just peaches/browns/etc).

I still think it turned out well, but if you want you could look at these:

Since you mentioned it below, I think Aegon looked like a Targaryen but Rhaenys looked like Elia.

Ohh thanks a lot for sharing, that sounds useful :) And also great tutorial.

I usually try to avoid blacks, mainly because my mum told me so  (she paints too, though real paintings, not digital) and told me to NEVER use blacks :D

I usually try to go for a tool that is not like the airbrush but like more harder and that respects the tablet pressure (uh?) but my main problem probably relies in my lack of patience. :/

Thanks a lot! Helpful like always :)

Nice! I never really thought about how much of a contrast there would be in their appearances before.

Thanks! :D Makes me also wonder how their kids looked, everybody seems to assume they were blond and lilac eyed, but I actually doubt it :)
